DeKalb County Case Search by Name
Open Indiana MyCase and pick the Name tab. A last name comes first. First name, middle name, and date of birth only work once you supply one. Person fields accept up to 40 characters apiece. For a company, skip the person fields and enter the exact business name in the Business field, as the official tips advise. Then set DeKalb County in the Court dropdown, choose Open, Closed, or All, and add filing dates when a common surname floods the results.
- Choose Name and enter the last name, then optional first, middle, or birth date.
- For an entity, clear person fields and enter the business name instead.
- Select DeKalb County, or DeKalb County - Butler City Court when that venue is known.
- Narrow by status and a valid filing-date range.
- Compare court, case type, filing date, number, and style before opening a result.
- Call the Clerk if the expected case or document is absent.
DeKalb Case Search Validation Rules
MyCase enforces firm validation rules. A birth date alone fails. So do first or middle names without a last name. Mixing a person's last name with the Business field triggers an error as well. A blank form does too. The MyCase search interface shows the Case, Name, and Attorney tabs plus the common filters. Sounds-like helps with spelling variation. It broadens results, though, and never replaces careful identity matching.
Use only the official courts.in.gov address. Treat what it returns as a search aid, not a certified record.
DeKalb Case Search by Number
The Case tab takes one identifier at a time. Choose Case Number, Citation Number, or Cross Reference. Fields cap at 30 characters, and entering two identifiers produces a validation error. Indiana help notes that hyphens and leading zeroes can sometimes be dropped. The full number straight from your notice is still the safest first try. DeKalb cause numbers begin with county number 17. Then comes a court identifier such as 17C01, 17D01, or 17D02, or Butler's 17H01. The groups that follow mark the filing period, case-type code, and sequence. Transferred cases can carry an older and a current court identifier. If the paperwork lists two numbers, search each one.
DeKalb Case Search One-Value Rule
Cause number, citation number, and cross reference are alternatives. Only one field per search. A traffic UTT belongs in Citation Number alone. When the number is murky, run the complete cause number first, then try the documented format without hyphens instead of guessing digits. The official MyCase search tips explain number formats, wildcard placement, and the result ceiling.
A wildcard goes at the end only. It must follow a value that begins with a letter or number, and it can never lead a field or sit mid-value.
What a DeKalb Case Search Returns
The result list gives you case number, court, filing date, case type, status, and style. Open the summary for much more. It can show category, court and county codes, status date, parties and attorneys, public or expungement flags, events, hearings, documents, financial entries, criminal charges, and appeal indicators. Document links vary by case type and access rules.
| Case Header | Cause number, court, category, type, filing date, status, and style. |
|---|---|
| Events | Event type, date, time, description, judge, and document links. |
| Hearings | Session date and time, court, officer, result, and cancellation reason. |
| Parties | Public party and attorney data allowed for the case. |
| Financials | Displayed assessments or payments that may be incomplete or outdated. |
MyCase Fields for DeKalb Case Search
The public MyCase field template documents field labels, maximum lengths, controls, and validation messages.
The template confirms three portal rules. Attorney names and bar numbers cannot combine; date ranges must run from earlier to later; and case identifiers stay mutually exclusive. None of that signals whether a case exists.
Statewide vs DeKalb County Case Search
MyCase spans the whole state. Its Court control narrows things down. Pick DeKalb County or DeKalb County - Butler City Court. The DeKalb County choice covers the three county courts of record. Butler is a separate city-court pick. Leave All Odyssey Courts on, and a same-name case elsewhere in Indiana can bury the local result. The DeKalb County Clerk is the local fallback, at 100 S. Main Street, Auburn, PO Box 230. Visit, call, or mail the county copy form. Use (260) 925-0912 for general and civil questions, (260) 925-4575 for criminal, (260) 925-1315 for small claims, and (260) 925-4576 for traffic. For official or certified products, those channels still outrank MyCase.
DeKalb Case Search by Attorney
The Attorney tab takes names. Search by last, first, and middle name. Or use an Attorney/Bar Number up to 20 characters. A first or middle name requires the last name. The bar-number field replaces the name fields entirely, so never fill both at once. Sounds-like works here too. This route finds cases tied to a known lawyer when the case number is a mystery. Results stay subject to public access and indexing. Narrow to DeKalb County, status, and filing dates to avoid unrelated statewide hits. Remember the portal caps results at 1,000. A broad attorney or surname search may need a tighter date window.
Narrow DeKalb Case Search Results
MyCase stops at 1,000 results. A broad surname or attorney search can push the case you want past that cutoff. Pick DeKalb County. Choose the likely open or closed status, and set a filing-date window. Add a first name only after the required last name. Use Sounds-like just when spelling uncertainty justifies looser matches. Narrowing beats resubmitting the same statewide query over and over, which can trip CAPTCHA controls.
Restricted DeKalb Case Search Results
MyCase only searches non-confidential Odyssey information for the DeKalb County court docket. Indiana Access Rules keep certain classes out, including juvenile and mental-health cases and protected identifiers. Some older converted events stay searchable even though their documents are not online. So a blank result does not prove a case never existed.
Protection orders deserve extra care. MyCase name searching leaves out protected-party details. A separate public channel covers respondent and order information. The Indiana Protection Order Search information spells out that route on its official page.
Never work around a protected-party exclusion with alternate spellings. Use the authorized channel instead, and ask the Clerk about current access procedures for the protection-order docket.
When DeKalb Case Search Finds Nothing
Start with the basics. Check the spelling, the identifier type, the court choice, the status, and the filing dates. Loosen a date range that is too narrow. Switch to Sounds-like for name variations. Drop the hyphens from a full cause number if the official tips allow it. Got a fresh traffic ticket? Make sure the UTT sits in the Citation Number field. Butler runs on its own court choice, so select that one.
Still nothing? Call the right Clerk division or go to the counter in person. The case may be too new to post yet. It may be too old for a complete conversion. It could be confidential, expunged, transferred, or hiding under a different authorized search route. Need one specific document? Send the copy form with the cause number and filing date you already have. For an official balance or a certified result, trust the Clerk, not a portal display.
Search carefully: CAPTCHA can appear after repeated searches, and automated data mining violates Indiana rules. Narrow the query instead of repeatedly running a broad statewide search.
DeKalb Case Search Is a Reference
The official MyCase help page explains converted-event warnings, document availability, CAPTCHA controls, and the official-record disclaimer.
Treat a DeKalb County docket search result as a reference. It helps you locate a public case, confirm a hearing, or spot a filing. Verify anything consequential with the originating court or the DeKalb County Clerk.
Verify DeKalb County Case Search Results
Line up your search result against the source document. Compare the county code, court code, filing date, case type, style, and status date. DeKalb code 17 marks the county. C01, D01, D02, and H01 separate Circuit, the Superior courts, and Butler City Court. A name match alone proves little. A transferred case can keep its sequence number while the court identifier changes.
Docket events may list type, date, time, description, judge, and linked documents. Criminal docket summaries add charge number, citation, offense date, statute, degree, and modification fields. Financial data can be incomplete. A missing link does not mean no filing exists. Check the document matrix and request the dated filing.
Need a human? The Clerk's general/civil line is (260) 925-0912. Criminal is (260) 925-4575. Small claims is (260) 925-1315, and traffic is (260) 925-4576. The counter and mail form handle official CCS copies. They also handle certifications, balances, access questions, and converted records. MyCase finds things; the court and Clerk hold the official DeKalb County case record.
A tight query also cuts CAPTCHA interruptions and keeps a local result from getting lost in a broad statewide list. If you are tracking a case status or a hearing date for the docket, note the access date.
