Traffic Court Records in DeKalb County
Local allocation rules split traffic cases by code. IF infractions belong to DeKalb Superior Court II, while moving OV matters go to Superior Court I. Butler City Court is the county's only separately listed city-court venue. It handles ticket disputes and traffic-fine collection. Auburn, Garrett, Waterloo, and Hamilton have no traffic portal. For those towns, start with MyCase and the county Clerk unless the citation itself names Butler.
A court file may show the citation, charge, plea, scheduled events, orders, payments, and disposition. MyCase displays the public Chronological Case Summary. That view is not a complete official file or a driving history, so call the DeKalb traffic division at (260) 925-4576 for more; Butler City Court uses (260) 868-2441.
Payment Is Not a Ticket Lookup
The DeKalb County payment hub lists traffic fines alongside court costs, copies, judgments, and other transaction types.
That menu moves money. It does not search the docket, and it will not prove a payment posted. MyCase warns that online financial data may be incomplete, so get an official balance or satisfaction from the Clerk.
How to Look Up a Traffic Ticket
Open MyCase. Fill in exactly one number field: Case Number, Citation Number, or Cross Reference. UTT points to the citation number. Cause Number is the court's case identifier. If no number is handy, use the Name tab with a last name and, when helpful, a birth date, then set the Court control to DeKalb County. Beyond MyCase, the traffic phone line, the courthouse counter, and Butler's court line are the documented channels.
- Read the issuing court, UTT, cause number if present, and appearance date on the citation.
- Enter the UTT in MyCase's Citation Number field, or use the cause number alone.
- Without the ticket, search by name and birth date and narrow to DeKalb County.
- Match the court, case type, filing date, and citation details rather than relying on a name alone.
- If the ticket has not posted, call the county traffic division or Butler City Court and visit the named counter if necessary.
- Record the setting, disposition, amount, and response date, then verify urgent information with the court.
DeKalb PayGov Fields Explained
The county traffic PayGov form asks for the recipient's name, cause number, telephone number, amount, and payment data. The UTT field is optional. The posted fee is 3.95%. The form also expressly excludes Butler City Court.
A cause or UTT number helps route the money. It is not a free case-search result. Confirm the case and amount first, save the vendor receipt, and verify the posting with the Clerk later.
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
Your citation's appearance date is the starting point. MyCase hearing events give you the remote confirmation. DeKalb posts no separate searchable daily hearing calendar. Open the matching case summary and check event details for a later result, a cancellation reason, a reset entry, or an order. An old date can stay visible after a continuance. Confirm close dates by phone with the issuing court.
| Citation Number | The UTT, entered alone in the Citation Number field, for example UTT printed on citation. |
|---|---|
| Court | Superior I, Superior II, or Butler City Court as shown on the ticket and CCS. |
| Date & Time | The appearance or hearing setting, subject to later orders or resets. |
| Courtroom | Use the location shown in the event or notice and confirm before travel. |
| Status | Open, closed, pending, disposed, or another displayed case status. |
Butler Uses Its Own Payment Route
Butler keeps its own payment route. The Butler City Court PayGov page asks for name, date of birth, cause number, UTT, phone, address, driver's-license details, and card or bank data.
That page takes payments only. It is not a document viewer. Official sources differ on the street presentation, so call (260) 868-2441 to confirm the active courtroom or counter before traveling. Butler cases can still appear in statewide Odyssey/MyCase under the city court.
Paying or Contesting a Ticket
Follow your citation's own response date. DeKalb sets no universal deadline. There is no generic online plea system, camera-ticket portal, or countywide defensive-driving schedule either. Paying generally resolves the cited obligation under the court's process and can produce a conviction entry. To contest, follow the issuing court's plea or appearance instructions. A payment vendor cannot enter a contested plea.
| Paying the Ticket | Contesting the Ticket |
|---|---|
| Confirm case and balance with the correct court. | Read the citation's plea and appearance directions. |
| Use the county or Butler route named for that venue. | Contact the issuing court before its printed deadline. |
| Keep the receipt and verify posting. | Record the hearing set after the response. |
Missed Date or Payment: Contact the issuing court immediately. Indiana BMV explains that a court may report failure to appear or pay. Court-based reinstatement begins with clearing the court matter, but additional BMV documentation or requirements can remain.
IF and OV Codes Route Differently
An IF code marks an infraction routed under DeKalb's local plan to Superior Court II. Moving-traffic OV matters go to Superior Court I. Other OV categories can follow a different allocation. Butler's identifier is 17H01. Trust the court printed on the citation or returned by MyCase instead of guessing venue from the roadway or police agency.
Quick contact: DeKalb traffic division: (260) 925-4576. Superior I: (260) 925-4723. Superior II: (260) 925-5277. Butler City Court: (260) 868-2441.
No Separate DeKalb Camera Portal
DeKalb County offers no camera-enforcement docket, no separate municipal citation lookup, and no countywide online plea portal. That absence matters. Never type your citation or payment details into an unrelated municipality's system just because the violation happened near that city. Use the court printed on the ticket. MyCase and the matching phone line come next. Too new to appear? The court can tell you whether processing is still pending, and that will not change the response date on the citation.
When a New Citation Is Missing
New tickets do not show up in Odyssey right away. Give the clerk time to process the citation into the system. When you search, type the UTT exactly as printed. Include letters and leading zeroes. Put it in the Citation Number field. The Case Number field will not find it. Still nothing? Switch to the Name tab and narrow the Court to DeKalb County. Remember that a failed lookup changes nothing. The printed appearance date and response date still stand.
Before you call, gather the issuing agency, the UTT, the issue date, and the driver named on the ticket. The county traffic division or Butler City Court can then confirm which venue holds the case. They can also say whether processing is still pending. Never use a payment form to force a lookup that failed. Guessing an amount is just as risky. Only the issuing court can state the live obligation, the setting, and what response the citation requires.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
Two offices keep two separate files here. The DeKalb court and the Clerk hold the citation case and its CCS. The Indiana BMV handles licenses. Its driving record lists reported convictions, suspensions, and what reinstatement requires. A closed court file does not prove the BMV record is clear. Likewise, a BMV response never replaces the court's own disposition.
| Court Traffic Record | Driver Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Kept By | Issuing court and DeKalb Clerk | Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles |
| Shows | Citation, plea, settings, orders, payment, disposition | Reported convictions, licensing status, suspensions, requirements |
| How to Get It | MyCase, Clerk phone/counter/mail copy request | Indiana BMV driver-record and reinstatement channels |
The BMV common traffic violations page explains court-reported failures and licensing consequences.
This state record must be checked separately from the CCS.
Clearing Court and BMV Holds
The BMV reinstatement page describes restoring driving privileges after the underlying requirements are met.
Work in order when a failure to appear or to pay triggered the report. Start with the court, since that is where the hold began. Bring the court's documentation if the situation calls for it. Then ask the BMV whether fees, SR22 insurance proof, or another step still apply, because neither a MyCase page nor a PayGov receipt proves reinstatement by itself.
Fees and Copies
Copies come through MyCase or the DeKalb Clerk copy form. The form's current prices are $1.00 per page and $3.00 per certified document. Card payments add a convenience fee of 3% or a $1.50 minimum. The vendor's charge sits apart from copy charges and court costs. Confirm the current quote before ordering.
| Item | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Plain court copy | $1.00 per page | Current county copy form |
| Certified document | $3.00 plus pages | Confirm current Clerk quote |
| Traffic payment vendor | Displayed service fee | Separate from ticket and copy charges |
The official Indiana Code Title 5 page gives the state public-record backdrop. It does not override the court's own access rules or the local fee quote.
For an official traffic disposition, route the request to the court that owns the case.
Verify DeKalb County Traffic Court Records
Verify a DeKalb County traffic record with more than one detail. Use the UTT, the cause number, the named court, the issue date, and the current CCS. Enter one identifier at a time in MyCase. County and Butler payment routes stay separate. Neither vendor page counts as a docket search.
After paying, keep the receipt. Then check the court record to see the posting and the disposition. A vendor confirmation does not cancel a hearing unless the court says so. Contesting the ticket? Follow the appearance and plea instructions printed on the citation. No universal DeKalb deadline or countywide course program exists.
The Indiana BMV record needs its own check whenever licensing status matters. Clearing the court may be only step one, because the BMV can require documentation, fees, or insurance proof. The Clerk owns the disposition and certified copy. The BMV owns the driving record and license status. Confirm both before treating a closed DeKalb County traffic court record as proof of restored privileges.
Mail requests work best with full details. Name the court, the UTT, the cause number, and the disposition date, and say whether you need certification. Confirm the current charge with the Clerk before payment goes in the envelope.
